Santo Domingo de la Calzedo, Spain

Jacob and I just woke up from an hour and a half siesta. After 3 days of walking on the Camino de Santiago we've decided to take a bus into Burgos one day early (tomorrow). Today's walking started with a bit of bickering like it has the last three days. We woke up at 6:30 amongst the sound of toher pilgrims getting ready to leave. We slept in an elementary school classroom with 6 other pilgrims. The auberge down the street was full when we arrived yesterday afternoon. We barely got any sleep because the town of Azofro was having a fiesta with live music playing throught the night until 4 am. I think today's scenery was the most beautiful we have seen so far, but Jacob thinks we have seen others just as nice. Perhaps I was just in a bit better of a mood since he was carrying some of my things in his back pack today. We also decided to stope for a few minutes every hour. This helped a great deal, allowing us to rest, fully enjoy the scenery, possibly get out of the sun, and take a few pictures. The other days we rushed a bit. And we walked in the heat of the afternoon. I will never do that on the Camino again.

The scenery today was mostly rolling, golden hills and green mountain sides, some vineyards, and lots of strange wildflowers. There were sometimes giant cubes/stacks of hay bales, one of which we rested in the shade of. We walked alongside many, many pilgrims today. Although it seems like many of them speed past us, we end up seeing each other many times throughout the day because everyone stops to rest and continues walking later. The hills were a challenge, especially while combating strong winds from teh South. After yesterday's demoralizing afternoon headwinds uphill I was prepared for today. At the top of one of today's most picturesque hills was a strange town called Ciruena.

It was like a ghost town of cookie cutter houses. I wanted to take pictures but didn't dare ask Jacob who was walking quickly ahead of me anyway. (These pictures are stolen from the internets...shhh...)

We were going somewhat the same speed though since today I think I found my rhythm and a way of walking more comfortably and swiftly. There were different neighborhoods with a completely different style of identical condos/apartments/houses. Most of them were still for sale. There was golf course and a swimming pool. Jacob got deja cu. He'd had a dream we were in Spain, he heard people speaking French, he was holding a walking stick with a clock on it, there were sprinklers on one side of him and cars on the other. Dreams are freaky.
